I think it's a maxima, but the colors?

Small aqua cultured 1.75" long Maxima?
When I first saw it, I thought it was baby crocea. But the flutes on the shell say maxima?

Could be a cross between the two. Mantle looks more like crocea, but the shell looks a little like maxima. I'd say that's a cool clam to have!

I barricaded the little guy in the spot I wanted him in. The next day he was attatched. Gave him a little nudge just to make sure. He's not moving, I hope.

It think its a crocea. Sometimes on smaller or captive spawned croceas you'll see the scutes. Try to get a pic from the side.

i agree, it looks like a tank raised crocea. a crocea losses it's scutes by boring into rock, if it was tanked raised it would / could have small scutes like in your picture.

i have a crocea on my sand and it is grown the scutes allmost as big as a maxima
