Babies are doing well this morning. All have eaten live bbs, frozen bbs and frozen rotifers. Emailed Jorge from Draco Marine. Looks like I'll be getting lots of practice raising fry. These little boogers proliferate every 2 weeks and almost immediately after they deliver. So I'll probably get a new brood in 2 weeks or so!!!!

All have eaten frozen bbs and frozen rotifers? Are you sure you are seeing them eating frozen? If they are eating frozen, start feeding them something more substantial like frozen cyclopeeze. What are you enriching the bbs with? I would be enriching with Selco or else you are going to have die-off problems in a few days from lack of nutrition.

You are having a really odd experience with your fry. You have erectus from Jorge, which should make them northern erectus and should make the fry pelagic, but your pics from the first day have the fry already hitching. You also have them eating frozen after the first day, which is not normal. I would also be suprised if northern erectus were able to eat frozen bbs as newborns because of their size and the size of frozen bbs... I am inclined to believe that you actually have southern erectus, which are larger at birth, can be fed larger foods, and are able to hitch at birth; and also to believe that your fry may be "interested" in the frozen but not eating it. So definately keep a close eye on that.

Are you siphoning out the waste and leftover food after feedings? That is one good way to tell if they are eating and what they are eating. Also, they should all have little orange bellies after eating. Keep an eye on those water params if you are putting frozen foods in there.

I haven't siphoned yet today. Whats weird is only some are hitching. The reason I know that they are eating frozen is because that's all I had all day yesterday. I just started feeding them the live bbs this morning. I wonder if it's possible that I have one northern and one southern. I didn't get them together. I got them about a month apart because of all the hype of how sensitive they are. I figured I'd get one and see how it went. I guess only time will tell. Good idea with the selco. I have some in the fridge. I'll add it to the food at the next feeding. I'll also add cyclopeeze too. My hubby put cyclopeeze in last night when he fed them while I was a work. He said they seemed interested but then spit it out. I'll keep trying though. I have kids. I know ways around picky eaters!! Its quite an exciting experience.

If only a couple are hitching, you probably still have northern... If most of them are hitching, I'd say theres a good chance you have southern.
Make sure the selco is IN the food and not on the food (so gutload, and then rinse) so that there is more of a chance that the selco makes it into the fry, and less of a chance that the selco just washes off and fouls the water.
I wouldn't worry about them not taking cyclopeeze yet, they are still very young.
Congrats and Good Luck.

Well, I still have 1 baby left. He's eating fresh bbs and doing well. I'm starting a rotifer culture today anticipating the next brood.
