i think the tank gods are mad at me

:mad2:so to start off monday morning the dog woke me barking i couldnt figure out what he heard. I began my investigation from under my warm covers with a strange smell. I smelled something "wierd" , jumped out of bed and went running to the tank. My tanks birthday is only dec 22, so its still NEW. i figured out the noise was the heater EXPLODEING in the sump. There was black soot stuff all in the sump, luckily the system is on a power strip so i dont believe anything made it to the show tank. Part 2 i have been noticeing over the past couple days it looks like the right front corner of the stand is pulling from each other! there is like a 1/4in gap. Its a brand new stand to! i went to home depot and got 2 brackets and secured it for now.OY

Ugh... sorry to hear of these troubles. What kind of heater was it and was it exposed to air at all?

is the sump designed so the heater is NEVER exposed to air?

as far as the stand there may be more to it then just adding a brace are you sure that the floor is strong enough to support the weight of the tank? or is it not level usually if its separating that would indicate something settling

did you shim the stand? If done improperly, it may have resulted in uneven weight distribution. ie: point loading.
