i want a fision skimmer

i would advise against one unless you have a sump. they produce billions of micro bubbles. bad design is main problem. skimmer cup has holes/slots around the side for some reason. mine lasted about a month before taking the powerhead off and useing it for circulation only. REEF-ON!!!

From what I have read, the general consensus is to find a small air-driven skimmer for in-chamber use.

Trust me when I tell you that you DON'T want a Fission Skimmer...used mine for 3 weeks. All I got was a cloudy tank (because of bubbles). I heard Remora was coming out with a new AquaC for Nano...should be avail this summer. I think I'm gonna try that one.

AquaC for nano tanks?!?! That sounds awesome! Any other info on it?

Not yet, LFS supposed to call me when they are avail...I'll try to get more info and post.

the AquaC Remora Nano is going to be the same as the regular Remora - only smaller. if you have an all in one cube tank that still has the top on it, it will not work. it is still a HOB style skimmer.

I have a Fission nano skimmer sitting in the closet collecting dust right now, the pump is in my bucket o' salt water for circulation purposes. After trying the skimmer out for over 2 months, I basically paid 30 bucks for a little water pump for my bucket, that's it, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!! sooo not worth it.

Does anyone have any info on the rio skimmer? I saw a couple of ads for it in the new TFH. It looks like a skilter sort of(if you know what those look like). It's made for nanos.

You don't wanna get a skimmer. One of the pros of having a nano is the convenience of doing frequent wc. Just keep up with wc and you will be all set unless you are keeping sps.

Have YOU personally ever had a problem with a Rio. I have several and only needed to clean the impeller, just like any other pump.
Your experience?

i have a rio 8hf as my split return on my nano and all i do is clean the impeller when the flow decreases ...i also have a rio 606 mini jet...no issues yet...famous last words

The MiniJet 606 isnt a Rio. Its from Aquarium Systems. The same company that makes MaxiJet powerheads.

Personally, I havent really had any real issues with a Rio. I have a small handful of them and they are fine. Like mentioned above, keep em clean like any other powerhead and you should be fine. Considering how many units are sold, having a few go bad isnt unusual. You just get skewed perspectives when people come online and make a big fuss about it.

There are DIY sites on how to build a skimmer. Just do a search for DIY skimmer on google. You should find some good stuff. I bet you could just make one out of a water bottle and an airstone.
