I want a nano tank

My mom always had freshwater tanks and I started saltwater at age 16. I'm 45 now and still enjoy it.
Back then nobody knew how to do it lol but I learned the hard way and read alot about it to get it right. Julian Sprung even had reef notes back then.
I would'nt advise getting a tank without your parents knowing.
Maybe you could get a nano for xmas or something.
Read all you can about keeping them.

Bobby,

I think your best bet is to put together a plan. Show your mom and dad exactly, which of their things you'll be using, what you will be buying, how much it will cost (and how you will raise the money), and what you want to keep in it. Then show them the requirements for the animals you are going to keep so they know that you understand the needs of your equipment.

If your family is already keeping a saltwater tank they'll understand if you are doing a good job planning.

It is always easier to get approval when they know exactly what they are agreeing to.

i started at age 5 with some goldfish and a betta in two differnt tanks
the gold fish lived for about a year and the betta lived for about 3
i liked them so much
then after that i was about 13 when i picked the hobby back up
i got a 20g freshwater tank and at 14 i read and read and read
then i got my 55 and started a saltwater tank
now i have the old 20g, 10g, and a 12g cube all saltwater
and now im 16
it sure burnt a hole in my wallet, i have probably invested over 2,000 in the hobby so far but i enjoy it
and plan on being a marine biologist

Let me add that my now 10 yr old daughter wanted a guinea pig (we now have 4 lol) and a bunny (we now have 2), hamsters (had 13 at 1 point down to 2), land hermit crabs (4 of them),and a 10 gal freshwater tank besides my 2 dogs, 2 salt tanks and birds and a potbelly pig.
She doesn't pay much attn. to any of them. I take care of everything.
If your like that then I would say no lol.
She's lucky I love animals.

no I don't live on a farm lol but I am in the country.

All of the animals live in the house but we do have 3 acres of land.

Great advice, and yes my parents are petenheather, and yes they have been doing saltwater for awhile, plus 7+ yrs of fresh. I have always helped them with the tanks. I do plan on using my allowance for fish and ect. we have a lot of extra equipment lying around and I could seed my rock and add some of there sand to my sand bed to seed it..any other thoughts?

Mommy knows best! We can't have everthiny we want, now can we! Maybe get a job?

I would wait for your moms permission. I started when i was 14 and my dad and mom is divorsed but i see my dad once a week with my mom. I asked him for the fish tank cause my mom didnt want to have any part of it. My dad ended up getting me the fish tank. My mom hates it all she ever says is you spend to much money on it and it makes a mess. It is much easer to have your mom support you manly since you cant drive and if you need to go to the pet store to get meds for the fish or any other emergence thing she wont mind driving. It does help though if you make a list and say the total price your stocking plan and every thing like that.

we have meds and extra stuff leftover from our FW tank, I hv been helping her for several years with the fishies....mom and dad are true enrthusiasists and are totally into fish, they read a lot and have become quite knowlegeble.. i think that as long as I use some of there rocks and some sand i will be fine. anyone else wanna chime in?

Show mom this setup . You wont need too much else besides salt, supplements, and test kits. You can use some rock from mom's tank to seed cheaper base rock. I'm not sure what mom and dad have in their tank, but maybe they can frag you some zoo's and such for yours.

:)

I think he accidentally hit the quote button on your post instead of the post above yours which was a bit of a condescending post.

Cool setup
