i heard they were good to have, fending off pests and protecting the acro colonies. any ideas where to get them? and if they do well in aquariums?

They are great to have, mainly because they defend the Acropora from pests. IME they usually come in with Maricultured pieces. I have a few but they are very small so I rarely see them. I think LiveAquaria sells them seperately, but I'd be willing to bet you can find an Acro locally with one on it. Just gotta look real hard. Be careful not to buy a fuzzy crab, those eat the coral. From my expierence anything that constantly bothers a coral is not a good thing long term.

I've only seen good things from acro crabs when they inhabit an acro colony.

.... now frags on the other hand... not sure how frags would respond to their crab friends.

I got an acro from Pacific Aqua Farms that has a small crab in it. It's not fuzzy, it's smooth and matches the coloration of the colony. Is it an acro crab? It doesn't seem to bother the coral at all.

I think most good ones have a bandit mask across their eyes..

got mine from saltwaterfish on a maricultured species. Definitly not that small and i like the little guy a lot.
