Sorry for my bad english ;)

I want to buy a clam for my Nano tank, 28 gallons i have space only on the sand, but it's a big space. I already found the small clam im looking for... It's around 5 inch, maybe less.

Any advice ?

By the way, if my clam became to big after 1-2-3 years the owner of the store will take my clam and give me another small one... This store is 15 years old.. so im pretty sure the store will be open in 1-2-3 years...

Any advice ?

My setup is : 28 gallons, Maxpect Razer 60 watt 1600k, sand bed, about 20 lbs of live rock.

Already have : Leather coral - Frog - Torch - A lots of Zoas - 2 giant feather duster - Mushroom - GSP - Xenia Pulse.

The only coral that i have trouble with is the Xenia (They don't want to pulse)

The tank is 2 month old. Already have coraline.

Fish is 2 ocellaris - 1 cardinal (im not fish oriented, i want coral)

I want to hear about your experience with clam before buying.

THX

What kind of clam? Exact species? You're going to need to be a bit more specific... There are a lot of different kinds of clams.
What is your cleanup crew?

Yah, i doing my search on my side and your right, they have more they one species.

So im going back to the store tonite to ask more question about the species.

My cleaning crew are :

2 Nassarius snail
2 Trochus snail
8 Cerith snail
9 dwarf hermit crab

I back from the LFS it's two Crocea Clam (Tridacna crocea)... One of the two is not fine.. The gap is weird.. For me it's a no go.. The other one the foot it's very very solid to a big Maxima clam.. I fear the worse if he need to cut the foot with a blade...

So for now i think i pass...

Why are you asking about my cleaning crew ?

Good choice, passing on the iffy clams. You can probably ask them to special-order a specific clam species, especially if you go to the LFS often.

You're going to want to get a near-adult clam, if you have clowns... Sometimes clowns try to host in clams. It's okay for larger clams, but tiny clams and large clowns don't work so well- scares the clam and keeps it closed.

I asked about your cleaning crew to see if you had anything that might be a danger to the clam. Also, cleaning crew is a good thing to provide when describing your tank in the first post.
I'd suggest maybe you toss in one or two more nassarius snails- they're very useful.

This is what I know of these types of clams;

Many things nip at them including reef safe fish.

Any smaller clams (2ish inches) need target fed until grown larger.

Lighting has to be as strong as possible.. metal halide is almost what you need if not some serious LEDs.

I never tried them myself despite having an sps reef.

I don't know why but the "Real" nassarius is hard to fine here... They always sell "Illynassa obsoleta" and they write Nassarius on the tank but i know more than this.

Honestly i use two work for 2 big fish only store. But in the freshwater section. For the past 30 years a always have big fish tank at home.. 4 feet , 6 feet but in freshwater.

I read a lots before starting a new hobby, real book, forum , website.

I hate to "brag" about the fact that i know a lot about aquarium, because you never know all, and you can learn more by looking other experience and let's them talk.

Next week they receive new clams, For now im waiting !

I bought beautiful zoa with my money... It's better than buying a clam that your are not 100% sure about...

Again sorry for my english, i hope people understand :lmao:
