I would llike to get a green carpet anemone. I dont have any now and wondered if it would be compatible with my other livestock. I have a 72 gallon bowfront. Its been up for almost 5 months now.
I have 70 lbs of LR and several soft corals. I have a few damsels and gobies and a naso tang. Would it be ok to add a green carpet is my question and if so what precautions should i take and what should i feed it. Thanks so much for your feedback.

Carpets get HUGE and are monsters. If you do get a carpet it will probable be taking a few laps around the tank stinging the other corals badly. Then when it does get settled it might eat the other fish. I advise agaianst having a carpet anemone. Just read a post on a carpet eating a pwder blue tang, yellow tang, a goby and some other fish. But then again thats how I see it. I'm still a newbie though. It wouldn't be happy in a 72 gallon I think also.

they do have a tendancy to eat any fish that get to close.

hows your lighting? you'll need intense light to keep a nem. and they do get big.

you should feed it silverslides.. and theres more that a carpet can handle im just not sure. i dont own one. they bury theyre foot in the sand, or under a rock thats touching the sand bed.

Hi,I think your tank is still on the new side for adding something so demanding as a carpet.I would give the tank some more time to settle in before purchasing one.Good luck if you do get one.I have 2 in my tank-they've both eaten more fish/inverts,than I care to mention(one even ate a symbiotic porcellain crab-go figure),but they are truly awesome animals to observe. On a side note,if you don't already have moon lights, then I would get some before adding the carpet,as fingers crossed,I haven't lost a fish since adding them.

well thanks for the info. I will not be getting one of those.lol Is there any anemoes that you all would suggest that would be alot more peaceful than a green carpet, that wouldnt eat my LS or sting my corals?

Actually having had personal experience with carpets I would first wait another 5-7 months before buying one. Your tank has not fully established itself yet. Just give it time. What kind of carpet were you planning on getting? I am assuming that you were just going to get the Haddoni since they are the most common and relatively easiest to care for. Mertens are very hard to get and Gigantea is redicuoulsy hard to care for. I don't think MikeTaurean realizes there are three different species. BTW, not all anemones move when they are placed in the tank. My blue Haddoni stayed right where he was when I got it. Never moved once. And it could very well be happy in a 72 gallon tank if it has enough room to expand, flow and plenty of lighting.

BTA's are more fish friendly than Haddon's anemone.

A Naso and Haddon's anemone together in a 72 gallon aquarium is a recipe for disaster.

Yes I would go with a BTA.

About the stinging corals. I don't know if its odd or not but my blue Haddoni goes on excursions all over my tank periodically and I never see any negative effects on my corals. Other than the odd one he dislodges. I've heard SPS are more sensitive? I'm Not sure.

I also have a 72 bowfront with a Haddoni and it has stayed put in one corner and hasn't eaten anything in my tank but I do keep him well feed with silversides.
