I went fishing this morning...

A few weeks ago I made the mistake of putting another tang in my tank. I found a great looking powder brown for a great price so figured I would give it a try. Well needless to say he became a real bully so I had no choice but to get him out. However I FINALLY have the aquascaping the way I want it and taking out rocks would have been my last resort. So I did some reading and thought I would try the 2-liter bottle trick.

I took a 2-liter bottle, cut a hole in the top big enough for the tang to swim into, made another cut a few inches down, inverted the top and superglued it back. I attached a string to the top (thanks Vu) so when the fish swims in I could yank the bottle upright and out of the tank. I also cut a small hole in the bottom so smaller fish could get out.

So this morning I put some food in the bottle and dropped in the tank. Before I could blink my 6-line swam right in and within seconds the powder brown followed. I yanked the string, the 6-line went through the bottom and the tang is now in my sump.

Sounds crazy but I really felt like I conquered something. I had to walk around the house beating my chest like a gorilla and chanting "VICTORY!"

So if you need a fish out, try the 2-liter trick, it worked for me.

Nice job!!!!! I use a similar set up with a 20oz for a bristle worm trap. I cut the top off of a 20oz and invert it. Throw in some bait and....veola!!!!

That is funny. I also went fishing today. I got a blue/green Clown Goby from TJ (tswifty8) awhile back. He really liked to perch in one of my corals but the coral did not like it too much. I used a piece of 3/4" dia. vinyl tubing and started a syphon in a bucket and sucked him right out of his perch. He is really nice looking. He resides in my sump for now. I was thinking I was going to have to catch my 6-line because he has been tormenting by new clownfish. He has since mellowed out. I will be watching him though.

Glad you were able to fish him out... It was a pain catching him in a 15 gallon rubbermaid tub.

That is the guilty one. He is cool though. He is even cooler now that he is in my sump. ha ha Maybe Laura wants him back for her new tank.lol

Funny I have same clown goby too, hangs out in trumpet coral most of the time.

I am gonna have to try the 2 liter bottle trick. I have a tomato clown in my DT that I want to get out, but with all the rock and corals, it's hard. I tried catching him by throwing in some ffod and being right there with a net but he would just duck under some rocks. Now when I throw in food he waits til it sink lower in water column before he gets it, he won't even come to the surface to eat.

dont feed him for a day, so when the food is in the trap he really needs to get in at, once he is in pull the string and upright the bottle fast.

I had a squirl fish that would eat all the food as soon as I would put it in the tank .Have a cave so he would swim back into it no way to catch him.Tried everything .Than one day I looked in my tackle box found this tiny trout hook,put a maggot on id droped it in and bam as soon as it hi t the water he nailed it .Man was I releived .He got pretty big over the yrs so his mouth was big enough to grab the bait.Now I have a damsel thats about 4 inches long .Ask jeff trout and he'll verify it.Hes proly 8-10yrs old.
