Ian's 400 Gallon Marriage Test

Here is a shot of the Blue-Spot jawfish.

I have been in the background of your build and I have to say this is a great build. How long have you had the bluedot and how are you making it survive considering it needs colder water?

The blue spot is a recent addition, but they are native to Caribbean waters.

I've been following your build for a while.

Do you still have two mantis shrimp and a handful of gorilla crabs?

I am down to one mantis. It is either cowardly or smart depending on your point of view. I think he is a cowardly little runt who should just come out and take it like a man.

As to the gorillas, I still have them and, oh joy, they have been breeding. I removed one a couple of weeks ago loaded with eggs. I simply can't keep any SPS in the tank as they eat every bit of it. They don't seem to bother LPS or softies.

I will be removing all the rock to try leaving it out on cardboard for 15 minutes or so to see if they will bail from the rock.

The tank is alright considering how neglected it has been. Once we re-open I can get back to regular maintenance.
Yes, the crabs all came in with the rock. If it hadn't been such incredible live rock I would have just done the leave it out on cardboard trick when I got it but I didn't want to lose all the sponges and other life on it.

And you did try the drinking glass trap? I wonder if little tiny fiberglass crab pots could be built...

They will breed, but the larvae will be eaten by the tank mates or by your filter.
