Hello

I am looking at keeping sps and have a 300 gallon 8 ft.I have two wp60s in there now with two 900gph power heads
I was looking at either two icecap 300gph ones or go with a max gyre at 5200gph I have a new apex I can use to control them
Any thoughts
I seen you can get just a max gyre for around 140 for just the pump controller is 339
The icecap 3000 is 149 for the pump and controller
Thanks all

I have the max 250 in a 120 and am ready happy with it. My understand is the max gyre have more bells and whistles compared to the ice cap. I wish you could use max controller with the icecap but you can't.

The two Icecap gyre pumps for an 8 foot tank with SPS dominant will be completely inadequate imho. At the very least you need the xf250s, if not the Xf280s. Also, for a tank that size I'd be looking to use two of these pumps.

I have a 4 foot 75 gallon tank. I have maxspect gyre xf230 on one side and a Icecap 3k of the other side. And I use the apex to control them. I program them to change flows throughout the day and the Apex turns them on and off in 15 minute intervals throughout the day.

I don't think they will be sufficient for an 8 foot tank unless you get 4. two on each side and two on the back wall.

I've been using both for 2 months now and they both work the same - I really couldn't tell if one if better than the other just that the 3k is a little stronger. The controllers have the same operating procedure.

The one thing with the Gyres is they need to be cleaned regularly or the flow drops dramatically. I can have vortech or tunze operating for almost a year without cleaning without a dramatic drop is flow.
