Ich advice

Well, the lympho is back on my queen angel, and it brought a friend: Ich. I noticed some on my rock beauty as well. Put them in my 20G QT. Ordered Cupramine off of amazon. Until it arrives I'm using Rid-Ich Plus and doing 20% water changes daily. Water temp is at 72 F and salinity is 1.016. The rock beauty looks fine now and I'm most likely going to return him to my 120 soon.



They're both eating just fine. The queen twitches sometimes on the side it has ich on. Anything else I can do?
 
Just feed well and keep water quality high. It should go away on it's own.
I had a queen angel develop lymph in qt. It went away after afew weeks in my DT.
Queens are hardy so as long as it's not getting worse I wouldn't worry too much.
 
What about Medicated food?
Dr. G's makes an anti-parasitic food with chloroquine phosphate. Soak in Selcon and aminos? Good luck.

It's not the lymph I'm worried about, its the ich. He/she is still acting as if nothings wrong so for now I'm not worrying too much.
 
Just lost the rock beauty. I have no idea what happened. He was doing so good yesterday then overnight just went down hill. The queen is the one looking rough and its just swimming as if nothings wrong. I've only had two ich outbreaks in any of my tanks and both times they have taken something with them.

Really don't wanna loose my queen. I wish my cupramine would hurry. I guess that's what you get for not being prepared. Doing a 50% water change.....will update.

Yes, siphoning will help buy some time. will help some. Turn off PHs, filters, etc for a while first. All of the circulation in a bare bottom tank can keep most of the cysts in the water column limiting the help you can get from siphoning.

Ich will not go away on its own and all of the fish in your DT need to be treated. Just because you don't see ich, doesn't mean its not there. It most likely is in every tank the fish have been in and on every fish. Unseen ich is often in the gills. Do not return any fish until it has been treated with the copper for 4+ weeks; it doesn't matter how he looks. You have a much bigger problem on your hands than you realize. Please read the ich stickies posted there, especially the ich info written by Snorvich. Its obvious you don't know the ich life cycle and its vital info. You will continue to lose fish as long as you listen to folks who tell you ich "Is nothing to worry about" . I assume you didn't quarantine all of your fish? I'm not good with pics; but the Queen's markings don't look like typical ich spots to me. Is there any sloughing or peeling skin on the Q.A.? FWIW; rock beauties are very difficult fish and really are not a good choice for a new hobbyist.

I'm a little confused, not unusual for me; You mean the lympho will go away with good food and water, right? Ich sure won't go away without some serious treatment.
 
Yeah he's talking about the lympho. I've been doing SW for 3 years, I don't consider myself advanced by any means, but not a "new" hobbyist either. I haven't kept any "non-hardy" fish because I feel im not ready but I've kept a rock beauty before for almost a year, then got rid of it because it nipped my lion. Never had problems with keeping them. I suppose I've been lucky only having ich twice, but because of this your right I know very little of this disease. I'm guessing the rock beauty's was mostly in the gills. Will read the stickies, and probably set up another qt for my other fish. As far as getting it out of my DT, siphoning sand, 50% WC, and anything else? Will read sticky as well. And I do QT the majority of my fish. The only one currently in my DT I didn't QT is my blueface, and I've had him for almost a year now. Thank you for the post Mr. Tuskfish, always helpful.
 
Okay, so I did some reading. I read Snorvich's sticky and found loads of helpful information. Right now, I believe the ich is in the trophont(maybe) stage, considering It's only been two days. From what I understand, this is my plan of action: The curpamine "should" be here either today or tomorrow. I'm going to set up another 20g QT and put my BF in it. The lamarks will join the queen in the other 20g qt. Do a 50% WC(by siphoning) in the queens QT and wait. Once it arrives being a 4 week treatment period with 20% daily WCs followed by 4 weeks of observation. Removing all fish should ensure that the newly born cysts in the sand have no host and will die in that 24hr period.

Heres my ?: as far as inverts go, All I have are a bunch of hermits and a cleaner shrimp. Do I need to remove them as well or no?
 
Leave the inverts in the tank - they can't host ich. You'll need to leave your display tank fallow for 8-10 weeks.

Go slow on the cupramine dosing and test frequently, especially with angels. I've found the instructions on the bottle to be overly aggressive. Last time I used it I dosed half of what they recommended at a time. After 3/4 of the recommended dose I was already up to a copper level of 0.6

Sorry I was distracted while reading this thread and missed the ich completely. When I had ich in my dt I left it fallow for 12 weeks. There is a sticky about the percentiles of reproduction. If you are placing fish in an uncycled qt you need to watch ammonia. Another option is to use cupramine in your display tank but that will kill all of your inverts. I usually ramp up to full strength cupramine over 4-7 days as long as the fish are still eating and acting normal. While you have them in qt you should also treat with prazipro for flukes. I do 2 weeks of prazi.

I do not vodka dose in my 120g, should I to keep this from happening again? I know they're are other options out there for dosing for nitrates, but 100 proof does the job for me...

The cup. was waiting on my door step when I got done fishing last night. I also found the directions to be a little much. I figured I'd just use their directions for FW just to be safe.

You don't "unplug" the whole system. Just leave it fishless. Inverts are OK. Ich only feeds on fish and will die off during that fallow period. I'd read the ich stickies at the top of the disease forum. A good knowledge of the ich life cycle is vital

What are you treating with the Cupramine and where? You'll need a compatible copper test kit; SeaChem is my preference. Cu does work well at a lower dosage: say .35-.40 or so. Cu will not work at all at the FW dosage.

Like MrTuskfish says, continue to run the tank but make sure there are no fish in there.

I prevent disease by treating every fish in a QT tank with 2 weeks of prazipro and then 4 weeks of cupramine.

The angel in the picture at the top of this thread. It seems like the fishes fins are frayed. Is this from Ich as well?
