Ich and crustaceans?

One of my clownfish i recently got in the mail has a bad ich infestation * or what ever you'd call that* basically he's got it bad, my QT tank isn't cycled yet, it's got substrate * crushed coral* and I started it about a week ago? Do I put him in there? Or a empty fully cycled tank with substrate? (I'm going to put all the fish in there now that one showed signs of ich) Also. I was going to treat them in the cycled tank because I have snails, crabs, coral in my main tank. But if I treat them with a copper based med. * or like tetra ich away * how long until I can put crabs or snails in that tank? Any info is great >^<

My fish are:

I have 4 false oc. clowns
1 lawnmower blenny
1 yellow watchman
And 1 6 line wrasse
All in 55 gal. And they seem to get along great, no stress that I can see.
The yellow watchman just doesn't like other fish much and he gives a warning by puffing up whenever any of them get too close.
(I didn't name off coral and inverts because they aren't going to be treated with any med.)

Will copper treatment or * if you have a better idea* work for these all? Or are blennies scaleless?

Also, newb question here, what about Ich kills the fish? The parasite in the gills? Suffocation? What does the actual deed of killing the fish? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I just want to know what I the actual problem is. All my fish are eating great as well, I've just recently added garlic to the frozen mysis I feed them. ( and they all eat like pigs so they aren't lathargic )

Lesson learned kiddies, get qt ready first before trusting any clean looking fishes!

I really don't get what you say about where the fish are. Are they in a quarantine tank or in the display tank?

IMHO copper is almost always a bad idea because there are better ways to fight Cryptocaryon (ich, ick, or whatever else you want to call it).

Copper in a display tank with inverts is an absolute no go, the copper would not only kill all the inverts but also permanently ruin any decoration containing calcium and due to that absorption you would also be unable to maintain therapeutic copper levels.

The next issue is a proper diagnosis. If I hear a clownfish is sick I first think of Brooklynella. At a severe stage it can look a bit like Cryptocaryon.
If it is a Brooklynella infection copper would be ineffective.

They are currently in a display tank, but I plan on moving them either to my uncycled QT or my empty but cycled * display* I just haven't gotten live rock for it yet, live sand though. I don't want to treat them with the inverts, because I know most treatments are toxic to snails etc. so they won't be in the tank that I end up treating at all.

Are there any better treatments I can try? One safe for inverts or just a better idea all around? Neither the QT or the cycled Display have live rock, but they both have sand and crushed coral. Will it still stain that?


I looked up Brooklynella and it doesn't really look like that, it could just be my worriedness, but he has a few little white specks on him, he scratches or "rolls and flops" in the sand. Could it just be sand sticking to him? There might be a few more white specks on my other black clownfish, but the normal colored ones look fine, I only noticed one speck on one of the the orange ones and it fell off when I fed them.

Plus I think a snail layed eggs, could that be what stuck to them? * I doubt it lol but any Ray of Hope is worth it*
They are all acting pretty normal, I had to help the black one eat cause he seemed cautious of the food, but he ate.

I also thought of fresh water dipping them all, and moving them to my cycled tank, buy some more live rock new for that one. But I didn't want to stress them out more, and it's pretty scary for a newb when they stop moving in fresh water.

1 main display at my fathers, 55 gal. Live rock, inverts and fish

1 QT uncycled, I set it up about a week ago, I put that instant cycle bacteria stuff in it but I don't trust that it's really cycled, only has a sandbed, about 3-4 inches deep

1 main tank at my mothers, cycled,55 gal. been running for about a month, a little over. Added same bacteria, filter pad from nano 10 gal. * I just upgraded* and a 3 inch sandbed on that too. I have about 10-15 lbs. of live rock but that's still in the 10 gal. I could add it ..?

I plan on eventually having only 1 tank at my moms, less stress.
