ich and electrical leak ????

ok so i am long time reefer but its been a long time since i have done any reef keeping. it has been about 15 years since i have had a tank set up.
so for my sons 9th birthday i got a 29gallon bio cube. go it all set up everything was running great. i put fish and rock in some inverts and for about 1 month it was smooth. month 2 was where it all went down hill.

ICH ICH ICH.

so i set up a h/t and treated with copper. treated about 3 weeks

did 2 100% water changes in m/t while the fish were out. put fish back in tank and with in 4 days they all had ich. so i had just thought of this i had not tested the tank for a voltage leak. so i tested the tank and i am leaking between 30-35v in the tank. can this cause my fish to get ich?

Stress from voltage might cause fish that were carrying ich to get sick, like how you might go from a touch of the sniffles to a full blown flu if you didn't wear a jacket in the wintertime. Also, a 29g is easy to overstock so if the fish needed a bigger tank that's stressful too. But the reason your fish had it in the first place is cause it can live in the sand and rocks for a few months, so they got sick again when you put them back in the tank.

Best way to get rid of ich. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2507836

You treated the fish but not the tank. Ich lives about 70 ish days in the tank that your fish were in and when you put the clean fish back in they got ich again. Read the link I posted and it will help you.

As far as voltage goes unplug one thing at a time and see which one makes it go away. In most cases it's the heater.

Welcome to RC

ok thanks replies, i unplugged 1 item at a time and it seems every item is leaking in to the tank so i now found an old ground probe and installed it. current is 0.00 now. now that the fish have ich i am going to have to pull them again i guess. what is the rate of time i should wait to put the fish back in to the tank. some where i read that 2 weeks was enough but i see i was wrong. thanks for the help

holly **** that's along time lol. ok well i am going to do what it takes i only have 5 fish to put in the h/t. i put some pvc pipes in the tank and dosed it with copper safe and let the timer begin. so 72 days from today is halloween. i guess ill get to see if i get a trick or a treat then. wish me luck ill try to update when i do the release.

What type of fish do you have and how long did you take to put them in?

Fwiw I have 5 fish in my 80g (just upgraded) but I introduced the 5 fish over a 9 month period. Take it slow. Depending on the fish you have you may already be overstocked.

Since you Must Leave the tank empty for 72 days i would Treat the FISH QT Tank with HYPO SALINITY... No reason to Dose Copper since you are in no rush to put them back into the tank...... Also since its such a newly setup and small tank. I would almost tear it down Let it go Totally Dry EVERYTHING....

Restart the tank after a week... You will have it back up and running with the fish back in much sooner then 72 days and Be positive you have no Unwanted pest....

This is not Practical on a Larger tank but for 30 gallons what 2 hours to tear down 3-4 to put back up tops.....

Once everything is left dry totally dry.....Then wait 48 hours Ich will be dead.. I say wait a week with everything torn apart. Maybe even replace the sand

+1 if it were me I'd probably start over rather than explain all this to a 9year old.
Or treat the whole tank, buy a fake anemone and go fowlr.
