ich and other diseases

I have been reading a lot on here about Ich and other diseases to treat while in QT..

And I thought of one thing, Is there any place that sells fish and live stock that have already been treated for this stuff??

And I am also in my cycling process of my tank(day 5) since I used live rock, and live sand, I may already have the potential of having ich..and other diseases..

But really I would like to know if there is a place that sells and treats before it sells live stock..If not why??

To me I would think that would be a wonderfull sell point, obviously not for all diseases, but at least for ich.

But then again, if I may already have ich in my fishless coralless tank, then maybe it wouldn't make a difference I don't know.

Without going into the details, the business model of LFS or even online LFS will not sustain a true quarantine preprocess. Most (not all) aquarists buy based on price, and for this to be done properly the price would need to be double or more. The holding time would also have to expand considerably which again changes the risk level associated with inventory.

yes I agree all that be true, But, I ask you this, if you could pay a bit more for a fish coral whatever. and not have to worry about treating it at home, just acclimated it to your tank, would you not seriously consider that? there is a lot of effort on the treatment which is understood, but If I had a choice to buy an untreated clown fish for $25, or a treated clown for $50, I would seriously consider it, knowing what I am going to go through right now..yes it would be an expense on an LFS or online, But I bet you would see a lot more people being successful(which maybe why they don't do it)

The problem is not the aquarists, some would, most would not pay double for a fully quarantined fish. Heck, convincing people to quarantine at all is difficult enough. The problem is the business model for LFS. Impute the break even point for your favorite LFS and you will begin to understand the problem. And if they were competing with LFS selling cheap fish and cheap coral, they would be out of business whenever their credit card balances (how most LFS finance inventory) became unpayable. Anyway, I am out of this particular discussion as it is an academic exercise only.

I have seen your opinion on here many times, And I think the you have great knowledge of this industry..and I thank you for commenting, It was just a thought. so thank you for your valued opinion

Don't get me wrong, however. Wearing my consumer of aquarium products hat (hobbyist), I would love to pay additional for a properly quarantined and treated animal or for higher quality hardware products. However wearing my VC hat, and being rather intimately involved in the business side of aquarium LFS, I can tell you it simply cannot happen. The demand curve for animals (and hardware) is highly elastic. So while it is possible to capture "consumer surplus" with exceptional/rare/properly quarantined animals, the number of people willing to pay more is greatly limited. As a hobbyist, that is unfortunate, as a business person, it is the way it is.

My issue on this would be trust. Even if I buy a fish from a friend that I am confident has an Ich-free tank (has always QT'ed), I always QT the fish myself again.

I can guarantee that the vendor selling 'parasite-free' fish won't pay for the damage caused if a parasite sneaks in. And they can always blame something else you did that caused it over them).

Point being, I'm not going to put all my hard labor and fish/pet health in jeopardy based on someone elses procedures.

Amen.
