Ich confirmation with Pictures

How long was this fish dead before the pic? Has the fish had that peeling skin for a while, or just since he croaked? How long has he had the spots/blotches & peeling skin? How was he treated? Hard to tell, but without the above info, I don't think its ich. It could be ich + something else. Ich is usually fairly uniform in size, about the size of a grain of salt, and protrude more from the fish. I think brooklynella or velvet are more likely.

Crap. He was dead no more than 4 hours before the pic. He had some peeling skin a week or two ago, but in like 3 areas, and it was much bigger areas. Not like what you see in the pics. That seemed to have healed until this happened. Been in half dose copper since Sunday. Prazipro since Friday.

Saw faint small white spots Thursday, started prazi Friday. Sunday spots more pronounced, Sunday night even more spots. Swimming slowly this am. Quite eating Monday. Breathing increased this am. Added other half of Cupermine today, left for a few hours came back he was dead. Anthias and Cardinals in same qt seem to be, One of the anthias MAY have some small white (ich) spots, not 100% sure.

Oh and they didn't seem like sores, skin/scales was still intact, just missing pigment in those spots it seemed. Also while still alive, we THINK the spots were smaller and more uniform, but that's not for sure.

Was listless the last few days. Very little flashing. How fast does brook kill a fish? I though it was pretty rapid. Spots have been there since perhaps Thursday just small, but Saturday sunday it seemed to really get going.

Sorry bout us lost...doesn't look like ick to me...curious...how long did u have it in qt until he stated to show symptoms...

Hes been in Qt for prolly 3 weeks. Didn't start showing white spots till last Thursday. Had a few bigger puffy white lessions for the first week or 2, then that cleared up.

Prazi is hard on them IMO. I know some people say it can be dosed with cupramine I would not. I have no guesses on what those spots are, but I think it may have been too much meds at once that actually killed the fish.

Did the spots look the same when he was under water?

Good point, the spots, looked more like ich underwater, hard to see and small pinhead sized they were also on the fins and tail that I have seen so many times. When the fish was alive, Im pretty sure the spots were not nearly that large.

Sounds like it was ich then..

I don't know for sure either. Brook is a quick killer and peeling/sloughing skin is its main giveaway. FWIW: I'm a fan of copper and I use Cupramine about .40 ppm, their bottle says .50 ppm. Any brand of copper used at only half-dosage is probably is doing more harm than good---it just won't kill the parasites at that level . PP and copper are used frequently used together. The tech people at Hikari (mfg of PP) says the only thing this would hurt would the PP being less effective. You saw spots before dosing with PP. PP is a very mild med and I don't think the meds had anything to with the fish's death. I've used PP on literally 100's of fish and have never seen a serious reaction.

Just a few hours of decomposition can really distort how the fish looks. My gut feeling is that the fish had brooklynella.(Because the fish had peeling skin well before its death). Possibly ich as well. Its very easy to gang up on a fish when its busy fighting one parasite. You sure need to treat the remaining fish in the QT. Also, PT is a wormer and the flukes its intended to kill are seldom fatal to the fish in this time frame. I'd let the PP wait until the fish was was no longer showing spots or sloughing skin. PP does nothing for ich, velvet, or brook.

It can be done if administered slowly one med at a time..

Prazipro ALONE isn't hard on fish. A good example, my 125 at my business. My assistant dosed 4 tablespoons of prazipro in the tank, and the fish were ok to my amazement. The flukes they were wiped out of course..:D

Thanks for all the help!
The half does of Cupermine was given as a ramp up to full dose. The peeling skin was a couple weeks ago and had since healed. Don't even know if I would call it pealing. It was about the size of a pea 3 spots, kinda puff and white. It lasted weel over a week, Didn't look anything close to Lymph not sure what it was. Either way that healed and was healed for a week or so before the ich looking spots showed up.
