This is my first experience treating any type of disease on my fish. They were doing really well until these spots appeared on my angel and my copperband butterfly. Is this ich? It doesn't really fit the description. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for any help.

unfortunatley it appears to be lymphocystis which is a viral infection and extremely dificult to cure i have battled this disease before when i first began this hobby 10 years ago. this biggest contributor to the virus is stress and usually when the fish are mishandled or transported under very stressfull conditions the best way to battle it is by reducing any forms of stress including adding to many fish at once, putting hands in the system water parms being high or off inmparticularly ammonia and nitrites and not enough hiding spots for fish to feel comfortable ect ect i have tried a few medications that are not reef safe and didnt work for me i tried quick cure which claims to cure this virus in 1 week but it didnot when i used it. good luck and remeber keep the stree in the system down to a minimum if there are a lot of fish i would recommend removing as moany as you can with a fish trap NOT BY DISMANTELING THE SYSTEM

Lymphocystis. Extremely annoying and extremely difficult if not impossible to get rid of. The only way is for the fish to get over it himself. You can help him by keeping water parameters up and feeding a healthy/varied diet including nori, formula one/two, clams, mussels dipped in selcon, garlic.
I had a kole tang in QT for 3mths becuz of lymph.

OK, gotcha. I'm gonna research it and see what I can do. Thanks for the advice! That's actually the first time I've heard of it!

on a butterfly anal fin i just took scissors (or razor) and cut his fin off (it was near edge). it never came back and the fish easily healed. (it was also a new ish in the system so the virus hadn't really spread)

i woul'd try this on other parts. Your copper band probably brought it in - they're prone to it.

verey good chrissreef that is actualy the best methode to eradicate the infection usually i would just get the fish and with my fingers take it of but the scissor methode works well

Can royal grammas develop lymphocystis? He has been stressed by another fish that i just recently had to remove do to him biting his pectoral fin in half.

At the lfs I worked at years ago, we used to remove it with our fingers all the time. It rarely came back and didn't seem to bother the fish.
