Ich/Ick again

In order of probability of what went wrong:
  1. It's not Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans) You'd be surprised how common this is
  2. You didn't continue treatment for 4 weeks AFTER you last saw the LAST spot on your fish
  3. You didn't keep the salinity in the right range (neglect, bad measurement, etc.)
  4. You allowed the salinity to slip upwards during the treatment
  5. The treatment tank became contaminated from a source of Marine Ich during treatment
  6. The strain of Marine Ich is resistant to hyposalinity (unlikely)
    [/list=1]
I have no way to know what went wrong. But, if you're not successful with hyposalinity then switch to a copper treatment using Cupramine and the appropriate copper test kit.

Almost any white spot(s) has been called Marine Ich. There are several conditions which resemble Marine Ich unless the aquarist looks very closely. Sometimes a clinical inspection is necessary to be sure. A prime example is mistaking Lymphocystis for Marine Ich. When the Lymph clumps are very small, and often at the outset of this condition, it can appear to be like small white spots.

Some flukes or small worms may appear to be 'white spots' at certain stages of their development. To the uninitiated: trichodinid parasites, small isopod infestations, copepod infestations, bacterial infections (usually indicative of a systemic condition), and even the rare Epitheliocysis has been reported as Marine Ich.

In general, some people even report Marine Ich on fish which have small lesions caused by any one (or multiple) of quite a large number of possible organisms.

This is, in part, the problem with reports of the so-called 'reef safe' miracle cures for Marine Ich in reef tanks --- did the aquarist properly diagnose the condition to begin with?

I trust Psionicdragon and don't think this is the error in this case. Still, it is on the list.

lol lee, you are fast.

I am going to check again tonight to see if it is ick. It could be lympo since it looks a bit bigger than the normal ick.

I remember when I did the hypo, I always kept the salinity at 1.009. I refresh the water daily to keep it there. However, there might be a few ick that I did not see when I started my countdown again for the hypo.

That is where I am assuming its coming from since I haven't added anything new.

The first week after hypo, there was no ick and everything look well. Yesterday I looked at it with the MH on. I turned on the ozone again. The UV has been ran 24/7.
