Ich immunity/infection question

As I see it the OP will actually need three tanks if his goal is to eliminate Ich from his fish and display. Two tanks for TT method and the third tank(large enough to house all of his current fish) will be needed as a final QT for the fishing coming out of TT to reside while his main display lay fallow for the 9-10 week period. Otherwise he'll just be placing the clean fish from the TT back into the main display which will still be infected, essentially negating any benefit of TT.
At least this is how I understand it and am preparing to do myself.

That is absolutely correct. Some folks just keep transferring for the 9 total weeks their display must remain fallow. But having a cycled observation tank is preferable.

seems like a moot point to do the transfer if there arent any parasites visible

Ich is never visible. the white spots are not the actual parasite and are not a true indication of ich being present. This is why cleaner shrimp/fish don't help. The parasite is buried well under the skin, the whit spots is just evidence that a parasite has entered the fish. Ich also loves the gills, where it leaves no footprints. I'd read the ich stickies in the disease forum. Understanding the parasite is vital, if you're going to beat it. There is more mis-information on this subject than any other in the hobby, IMO.
