Ich Immunity

In my tank a new fish will get ich, but then it either gets better on its own or dies. Plain and simple. The whole time the others never NEVER show signs of ich.

To update, that shark nose gobi I bought that was loaded with ich was cured in copper for a few days and has been in my reef for a week. All signs of ich are gone as are the scars.

To up date again, that gobi is wery well and beautiful.
There is no sign of ich in my tank and I have not lost a fish to it in many years. Too many to remember.
Of course as was said many times it is best to quarantine but in some tanks with some systems that can not be done.
My system for instance depends on a lot of fresh food, seaweed and water from the sea. I also collect fresh sponge fo feed which does not last more than a few hours in a tropical tank.
I can't quarantine these things. In the sea many or most fish carry paracites at some point in their life. It seems to grant them some form of at least temporary immunity. We ourselves get injected with weakened disease organisms to become protected from a disease and fish seem to enjoy some of the same benefits.

Along these lines, I brought home 2 Pink-Tail Triggers a few weeks ago. I had my reservations. One had a wound under the chin, and the other already had a few spots of ich. The tank they were going in is very well established, and the few fish already there, have been for years. After the first few days, they finally started eating regularly, but the one with spots developed more of them. No other fish developed any at all, not even the one with the wound under the chin. After they finally developed their true "trigger appetite", in about a week to 10 days, the spots disappeared and the wound is about healed. With little exaggeration the spots worsened and disappeared in the course of about 5-6 days. No Garlic, no QT, no medications, didn't raise the tank temp. Just fed them well, which is probably what they lacked being in the supply chain for the last couple of weeks, maybe longer, before I brought them home.
