Ich meds

I'm listening also. I have had some issues with ich, and maybe flukes. I see you are in Lubbock. So am I. Have you asked at the LFS?

Search for hypo method and copper. These are the only two ways that work 100% if done properly that I know of. Some of the ich meds work to help the fish get through the stres but dont really cure ich.

no I have not asked the LFS because I dont actully have any fish with ICH yet. I just noticed some scratching on rocks and want to be prepared in case I do need to treat.

Ich is far easier to deal with in a FO tank than in a reef tank with many fish.

You can treat ich in DT for a FO tank. I would just use straight copper and repeat pulse often, likely every 72-96 hours, for about six weeks.

That is if all the fish can take copper. Some scaleless fish cannot.

I am on the 5th of treating my tank with Ich Attack. My Blue Tang is still scratching on rocks but does not have any white specks on his back. How do I know when the ich is gone?

If the fish is still scratching, how do you tell when the ich is gone?

'Reef safe' treatments are not effective.

I use Cupramine because in my experience copper is the most effective treatment and Cupramine is the safest copper med.

The problem is which parasite do you have? Ich and Brooklynella have much the same symptoms and appearance. The only way to be sure which one you have is a tissue sample under a microscope. Copper will only cure Ich not Brook. Formalin will cure BOTH Ich and Brook and do it in 10 days. I have read that 80% of the wild population of Clownfish are infected with Brook. In the open ocean, this is not a problem but in a closed environment like an aquarium its fatal.
