Ich on fry!!

Lately, I have been sterilizing (by microwave) the main tank water before putting it in my fry tank as an extra precaution. I didn't know that ich is another ailment to look for in fry. I also keep the specific gravity of the fry water lower (1.020) for the first few weeks. Maybe this would help with your ich problem. Maybe try a lower sg. I know many breeders use Formalin as a medication but I don't know if it can be used on young fry like yours. Good luck!

I lost 8 fry Tuesday night (The first loss from the start!) so I lowered the SG to 1.009. So far so good...the fry are eating and the spots are gone. I will keep them at the low level for 4 weeks and keep my fingers crossed.

Fry hypo, eh? That's a first in my book, glad to hear it seems to be working out.

How long did you take bringing the SG down? I think Joyce's suggestion on using broodstock water is most applicable in tanks where the clownfish are both healthy and the only residents...perhaps with infection-prone fish also in the parent's tank there's a better solution?

You can see the ich in these photos. The spots have gone away and the fry have had no adverse reaction to the hypo.

It is so hard to tell how tiny they are from the picture. Only people that have seen a 2 week old clownfish can appreciate how very small they are at this age. It didn't take much ich to completely COVER these little guys.

There is no reason 1.009 salinity would hurt the fry. Many breeders growout at 1.010 to save on salt costs. Hypo was exactly the right thing to do. You don't need to be doing water changes from the parent tank after the first few days though. Congrats on saving them tooshay.
