ich on hippo tang

are you stating that your 2 clowns are also in the QT with the hippo or are they still in your DT? you do realize that as long as the clowns remain in your DT, the hippo will be reinfected once you move him from the QT back to the DT....

Yes I know that but at the moment I'm. Worried about the hippo tang. Very white looking and breathing heavy since he has been in the QT tank. Should i move him back to the DT so he isn't so. Stressed?

Well.... He died. Do you think maybe the transition was too much for him to handle?

Poor fish.

Maybe do some more research before buying animals?
We all have deaths but it's helpful to know what you are up against before purchasing live animals.

There is so much to learn in this hobby.

Hippo tangs are notorious for carrying ich.
And moving tanks is usually stressful for fish
A double doozy.

Sorry for your loss.

thanks- i had a hippo tang in the past before i got out of the hobby with no issues. i have done research and i know what their requirements are, but i never QTed fish when i had my old tank.

If I were to get another tang, should i immediately acclimate him to the QT tank first do you think? Is it okay if the water already has copper in it?

I have used this 2 other times and it has worked great. I fact I started treating again since my blonde naso has some ich spots.

If you truly know what their requirements are then you would not have purchased a hippo tang for a 55 gallon display tank. Also, you would practice a rigorous quarantine regimen to keep all your fish healthy.

I would use kick ich next time. It is reef safe and safe for all invertebrates, no copper. I have used it and had great results!

And yes, always QT fish, always.

Per my original question.... I have a hippo in QT now. I haven't added any copper to his tank now. I acclimated him from the shipment last night. SShould I monitor him a few days then start copper, or should I Start copper now? He has only been in QT for a few hours and I don't want to stress him out by starting cupramine treatments right away.

Thx!

Also I have removed all fish from display tank. Is there anything I can add to kill the ich while the fish aren't in the display tank?

No signs of ich. But I want to make sure he doesn't have anything so should I just monitor him or do copperto be safe? Thanks

There are no reef safe treatments that work for Cryptocaryon infections.
Not true. Are they as effective as copper? Of course not, but that was not the question. It was a option.

As with most things in the reef world, personal preference has alot to due with recommendations.

No, it does not work. No preference involved. Preference would be between hypo, tank transfer and copper. Kick Ick is snake oil.

Thanks! I'm starting to see that there are many opinions on here :)

My. Question that I was looking to be answered is if there was anything I could do to expedite the process while my fish are out and if I should treat for copper now.

Thanksffor your help again!
