ich or something else?

I have a new 240g tank going and added achiles, powder brown, anthias, clowns. I was thinking they had ich, well the tangs anyway. Then one momemnt they are beautiful and clear but by the end of the night full of spots. Is that ich?

Sounds like ich to me. Does it look like salt on them? It can be as small as a pinpoint. Always best to QT new arrivals.

Thats how ich works... it falls of the fish and then hunts for a host in the water. If it gets better each time, your fish are likely fighting it off. If it gets worse, they are in trouble.

Thats the dumbed down version of it, anyway. Someone else can surely fill in the details

You will see ich come and go. It's part of the lifecycle of ich. When you mean "full of spots" is it all over? If it is, than I would QT them and treat.

yeah today my achilis has it all over although he eats fine and everything. I really do not think i could ever catch my fish to place in a qt

My achilles has lived well with ich for almost 3 years now. That's doing better than most with this fish so far, in spite of ich.

The trouble is, of course...capturing, qting, treating is also extremely stressful on a fish like the achilles. Might be a roll of the dice either way.

There is no 100% right answer. I'm only saying that my experience was to do nothing and my achilles does just fine living with ich. Yes, I'm 1000% positive that ich is the problem. I just double checked the records and he is about 1 month away from 3 years in the tank.

It just means that the decision to do nothing is not necessarily a failure on your part. For me, I chose to do nothing because I have not had much success with catching and treating a sick fish. They have always died on me. So I chose to do nothing and it has turned out to be a good choice in my case.

Here's a recent photo. He has visible ich virtually all the time, and you can see it in this photo (although some of what you might think are ich are just things in the water column)

My tank had ich outbreak 2 month ago, my Achilles was sometimes good, sometimes covered of white spots; but moorish idol and CBB were really bad. I ended up taking out all the rocks, and put all my fishes in QT for hypo treatment. It's been 5 weeks that my fishes in hypo. To my surprise, Achilles is actually doing really good in hypo, even I was struggling in keeping ammonia level down in the first two weeks.

untamed 12 thanks so much for the input and for attaching the pic. I def have the same thing. I am on the fence now. I want to move forward so badly. Does your other fish get ich as well?

My Atlantic Blue has some of it all the time as well. However, it just doesn't show on him nearly to the same degree. Sometimes, I think the ABT doesn't have any at all.

Those are the only two fish that show any signs. Other fish seem completely immune. (fish list in my signature)

I've had issues for the past while now. Haven't lost any fish, but I just set up a QT and am about to transfer all of the fish for 6-8 weeks.

It's not the easiest thing to do, but the most guaranteed solution.
