ICH out break

Well I have first set back QT my clowns for 4 weeks and put in DP tank and a week later 1 has ich. Did I not QT them Long enough? The main Tank was new and set up and cycled for 5 weeks before I put them in.

I have a 10g would that be alright for now for 2 clowns or do I need to get maybe a 20L?

Also do I need to let the main tank sit empty, if so how long?

What type of QT did you do, hypo or copper? What was your salinity at if hypo (assuming right now only because you mention 4 weeks)?

I do 6 weeks of hypo at 1.009.

You will need to treat all fish again and leave your DT fishless for 6-8 weeks.
I find a larger QT is better it helps with not having ammonia rise to fast.

I just had them in a 20L (bare bottom) set up normal salinity 1.023 for 4 weeks. They ate good and showed no signs of ich. Looks like I need to do some more reading.

Do you hypo treat all new arrivals?

I was planning to set up a separate 20L from the QT to be used as a hospital tank so I can treat with medications if need be

If it is not a bad out break, I have had really good luck with a product called Ich-Attack. I have used it several times and have never had to leave the tank bare or quarritne the fish.

I suggest you read this. I do not necessarily treat all fish unless they have an issue. However, I would watch them in QT a bit longer and treat if necessary.

That is depressing, oh well I guess this is why they say you have to be patient

In order to remove the presense of ich completely from the tank you will need to do one of either hypo or copper in QT on all introduced fish. QT'ing at normal salinity is still a great practice as you will get to ensure that nothing else serious is being brought along with the fish, but will do nothing to rid the fish of ich.

Yes, I hypo treat all my new arrivals. Fish love it and have never had any ich appear in my DT since starting this method. I use a 75g tank + sump for my hypo setup though.

Having a separate medical tank would be great as well, something that I don't have, nor have anymore room for. Fingers crossed and knock-on-wood that I don't need one anytime soon!
