ich questions

Michael - it seems that you may have caught it just in time before a major outbreak can occur. Just monitor daily and don't jump to putting chemicals into your DT, if that was what you were heading towards. It seems like your on the right track, hang in there and you'll get through this. BTW, I saw the pics of your tank and it looks awesome. I would hate to see you tear that apart, let alone, try to tear it apart.

scoobster - I'm assuming you have a reef tank yourself, how big is your tank?

scoobster, your tank looks great. kinda makes me want to go try doing a reef tank again so I might consider doing it when I get my 250 gal up and running. anyways, I would not risk putting any meds in your tank and causing more headaches. If possible, try to get the infected fishes at night (less stressful, IMO) and into a hospital tank asap. You can probably get the niger trigger with food since it goes to sleep and locks himself in at night. Keep us up-to-date on your battle w/ ich, I would like to know the turn out and hopefully they all pull through. :)

I have to treat the display with Prazipro for the flukes I am certain are on the Blueface. However, aside from bristleworms and feather dusters, I have read that it is a very safe medication and it has been used with success in reef tanks. I use it in my QT and it seems to be very gentle.

Thanks to all for the encouraging words. I really appreciate the advice and participation in this thread.

I did subscibe to this thread and when I get home tonight I am going to get my 100 gallon rubbermaid and a couple tanks ready for QT. Then catch the fish (hope all live) and start the cleanup from this. I am not wanting to do a cross your fingers method but to totaly get rid of the ICH from my system as I have some very nice fish in my opinion and I dont want to lose them and start over. I will keep this updated as I go.

Wait, just remember that your QT needs to cycled first. You might want to get some bio-spira and put it in your QT before putting your fish in. this product has worked for me in a pinch, its not the best method but at least you get some bacteria in there right away.

I also recommend having Prime or Amquel around. Just in case your ammonia does come up, you can bind it and take out the toxicity.

Mike,

My tank has been fishless for 8 weeks tomorrow. I had to pull my rock to get my fish out. The fish were coppered in a 55 and have been there for the full 8 weeks. The fish have faired very well in the 55 and I didn't lose anyone. I now need to treat for flat worms in the 180 before the fish go back in. Another big nightmare. Reefing is fun isn't it?

Glad you chose a course of treatment, think most of us have had to do this at one time or another..good luck..

I am still feeding heavly with garlic based foods to get them all healthy then the teardown. I am building a hospital tank setup now.

In an interesting development, the female potters in the tank, has just started eating good and pecking all over the place. Then I observed something truely special. After much prodding from the Regal, she is actually taking a cleaning role and is been all over the Regal. Very neat to watch!

Well I have sad news, I lost my Imperator today. Came home and found it on the sadbed. :mad2: On the other hand the other fish are looking alot better exept my regal tang. still completly covered in spots.
