Ich

Ouch. my head hurts after reading that.

I dont want to deal with adding any chemicals to my tank if I dont have to. too much chance IMO of them staying in there expecially with this large volume of water and rock. Hypo will work, im already headed that route. ill just need another bucket of salt in a few weeks.

seems on that other thread mentioned, teh Quinine will nuke your bacteria, so that is NOT an option. I am NOT restacking the rock just to get the fish out and I dont have a QT large enough for the sohal. I dont think he would be too happy in a 10 gal tank. that is overstress IMO

You Remember The PB had ICH from the move, I gave him to Mel who Treated him In a 20 long with Copper/ Hypo for six weeks. A little trick he showed me was to put a Coffee Mug in the tank so the Fish has a place to back in and feel secure. At first the fish was very skittish racing back and forth, Then as the Ich started to go away he was very happy in his little Mug and started to swim around normal again, Even in that small tank. That fish is still fine today and in with several much larger tangs including a Naso and an Achilles. FYI

Instead of the mug, I used the large T of PVC. Hypo works better for tangs then Copper. Copper does bad things to tangs!!!!

I hear ya. wish I had the ability to do that. dont have another tank nor really a net large enough to easily catch the sohal. other than some white spots, a very healthy fish.

at least doing it this way, i can ensure I will have no long term chemicals in the tank, and can completely wipe out the Crypto in the tank and on the fish. 4-5 weeks should be sufficient to kill it. do it now while I can.

What kind of bad things are you talking about? That fish has been Ich free and very healthy since the treatment, And actually has fattened up quite a bit. I don't see any Issues so what should I be looking for Mikey?

WOW that was alot of freshwater! to go from 1.022 down to 1.009. wow. did it over 3 hours so as not to shock the fish. all 4 look good, ate well at the low salinity and are very active (except the goby. he is plain lazy). I did notice that at about 1.015, the sohal quit flashing on the sand. today he was itching alot. on the rock, the overflows, the water outlets and the sand. like a 5yo with poison ivy!

I have read somewhere long ago that it does something to their internal organs specifically tangs(I think digestive system?). I may have it bookmark somewhere on this old piece of crap computer....lol....Hard to find stuffs on this old junk.... I have used Copper treatment before until I read that post. Never again I use copper on any of my tangs.....

FWIW I have had good luck with a mixture of metronidazole (Flagyl),

Yikes, I just cringed from the mention of metronidazole...poor fish, I just went through two courses of this (that didn't work for the particular reason I was taking it, but we won't go into that), if it doesn't work or fish have side effects use Vancomycin (LOL, just kiddin')...I think I now have Ich!

Yeah, I give one of my dogs metronidazole for when we boared her when we go out of town. Calms the stomach well for her, and she has no little white parasites on her when we get back either lol :D.

I had to give my dog metronidazole for 2 months when he had Giradia. Along with Panacure, I got rid of the buggers after the second dose with Panacure. I also had to give my new cat metronidazole for infections and to calm her stomach as well since she was pretty sick for 2 months.
