Apparently @ of my fish have ich. The only thing added in the past week or so was some ro/di water from the LFS. My unit cracked somehow, so I was in a pinch and wen tot he LFS and bought some.

I dont know if it came from the LFS, which we all around know their ro water isnt the best ro water. But I doubt it has ich in it.

But anyways... whats the best treatment for ich in saltwater tanks? I have never had it in a saltwater tank before, been lucky as far as all that untill now.

Formula 2 always worked for me. Or add garlic extracts to the food your feeding. Check your water quality, something might be going on. IF none work, you can do hypo. Good Luck!

Fresh water (RO or RO/DI) cannot support Ich. It most likely was already in your tank and something stressed the fish to cause a visible outbreak.

As far as I know (and I'm no expert), there are only 2 proven treatments to cure ich -- hyposalinity treatment at 1.009, and copper. Both of those should be done in a quarantine tank, and to completely get rid of ich you have to let the display run fallow for 6-8 weeks. This is to get rid of the parasite. There are also methods that improve the health of the fish to fight off the parasite, and treat the fish -- but don't eradicate the parasite. Garlic extracts like Michael mentioned are often used. There is also a recipe that many have had success with. I got the recipe from C_stowers who got it from fishdoc11. The recipe is as follows:

Seachem metronidazole
Garlic Guard (any garlic extract will do)
Selcon
Reef plus or Kent Zoe (vitamins and aminos)
Seachem Focus
Freeze-dried brine shrimp, or some Formula 2 flake

Mix 2 scoops of metronidazole, ~1/2 cap garlic guard, squirt of selcon, ~1/2 cap of reef plus, some seachem focus. Add enough freeze-dried brine shrimp or flake to absorb the liquid. Mix it up in a container with a lid, and refrigerate. Feed daily. One batch lasts 4 days or so.

On a side note, I have recently seen some posts elsewhere about RO/DI units that cracked because of the cold. A year or so ago someone in the club (or West TN club) had a similar problem while out for a few days, and came home to a ruined floor, etc. He had to break down his tank and essentially get out of the hobby because of it. There was major water damage -- beyond what Angela has going on right now. I recommend that anyone who reads this make sure your RO/DI unit is in a place that won't freeze so you don't have that problem...

I had a little outbreak of Ich in my 90 gallon about a month ago. It came from a new fish from someone that was getting rid of their setup. I used Kick-Ich and feed the formula two. Everything good in about two weeks.

The only place I found to buy it was marine depot place.

Agree...

I took another approach. I had ick some time back. PBT and 3 other fish all had it (PBT brought it in). I decided to feed well and watch for anybody getting worse. I watched the ick life cycle go through 6 or 7 complete life cycles with each time getting less and less. I also had a cleaner and fire shrimp actively cleaning all my fish ( i cant say conclusively if this helped or not). Ultimately the ick cycled away and is completely gone at this point, been over a year since i saw any.
I feed pellet (formula 1 & 2), cyclopeze flake, and a very wide variety of frozen foods. I believe that like humans, the fish can fight off most diseases if stress is low, environment is good and diet is good.+

I just talked to my uncle, who is a marine biologist, and he said to kick the heater up a to about 80-81 degrees, feed them something high in garlic such as fomula2 , twice a day. The temp will speed up their gestation cycle, plus corals like warmer water too, lol.

Im a little further east then most of you all in MTRC. We have had some super cold nights, like down to 15 degrees, and we still have snow left over from the other day. I bet thats what caused it to crack like Crumbletop said.

It was a LFS in Cookeville, dont wanna mention no names, but if you live around here, there is only one place to get it if you dont have your own unit. I have heard some people tested their water and the TDS was higher then tap water. I do know for a fact that they do have a TRUE ro unit but the storage tank is exposed to the air with an open top. And its in the same room as the quartine tanks for the store. So it is possible it came from the store, but unlikely.
