so i have a coral beauty angel fish. im pretty sure he has ich. i have a cleaner shrimp but he hasnt been doing anything to help my poor fish... is there anything i can do to get the shrimp to clean the fish? or should i go for a water treatment for the fish or something?

none of my other fish have the ich though... thats what kind of confuses me... arent they all supposed to get it once one gets it?:confused: i just dont know...:confused:
 
There's no way to get a cleaner shrimp to work on a fish.If one fish has it the whole tank is infected.All the fish will need to be put in a hospital tank and treated with hypo or copper.The display will need to remain fishless for several weeks.
Can you post a picture of the CB?What makes you think it's Ich?
 
ill try to post a picture... its a bunch of little white spots on it on both sides... is there any other reason the fish might have those spots? he's been swmming around a lot too lately... like... a lot faster than he usualy does and back and forth back and forth... i've read that the white spots could be ich and the different swimming patterns could also be a sign
 
Yes,that definitely sounds like Ich.
Go read up on it in the Fish disease/treatment forum.
Did you keep your 13 gallon?
Should always use a QT tank when buy new fish.
 
ok i will.. the coral beauty isnt a new fish th ough.. he was doing great in the 13 gallon but when i put him in the 55 gallon he got it... weird...:eek2: i still have my 13 gallon but there is no water in it or no sand or rocks or anything.. should i set it up again with rocks and sand and stuff or should i just put water in it and treat him?
 
there is ich present alot and it sometimes takes an added stress to make a fish vulnerable. as long as there are fish in your tank the ich can continue to cycle. remove all your fish and treat them with copper. I would make it a barebottom- nothing in the tank- nothing to absorb the copper. run your main tank at about 82 degrees- higher temp shortens the ich cycle. Give it a good 4-5 weeks. annoying I know but after watching your fish come down with it 1 by 1, then dieing 1 by 1, you'll end up doin it.
 
i quarantined the coral beauty angel... and i got stuff called rid ich.... the guy at the store said it was an excellent way to get rid of it... he said he has over 400 gallons worth of fish tanks at his house and he has definately had his fair share of ich.. he uses that in a quarantine tank. the quarantine is barebottom and no rocks or anyhting... i upped the temp to around 82 degrees in the main tank to try to get rid of any existing ich already in there.. but i think i caught it early enough so that none of the other fish caught it =] hopefully they wont but ill keep you guys updated... thanks for the help everyone!

it...your money...is what he was referring to. It is not proven to work on ich, but it has been proven to deplete your wallet of money that could be used on something worthwhile elsewhere.

The only proven ways to kill ich are hypo, copper and the tank transfer method.
 
Well you are both dead wrong on this.
Rid Ich+ is a combination ot formalin and malichite green.And this is a great combination against Ich despite what you think you've learned.It also will knock out flukes.So keep learning,but leave ones mind open to other treatments.Yours is not ALWAYS the only way.

yeah. the guy at the pet store told me it combined formalin and malichite green and it should work great against ich and many other different diseases and parasites. and it wasnt even too expensive.. well i guess compared to other stuff.. i got a bottle that will treat about 240 gallons for about 6 bucks. i only have a 13 gallon quarantine tank... and i only put about 10 gallons of water in it. so i only have to use a teaspoon of the stuff every day (it says use a teaspoon for every 10 gallons).... not too bad if i do say so myself. i hope it works! and thanks stingythingy =].

ive read about the other treatments too. i definately did not want to mess around with hypo and copper.. especially with the fish being a coral beauty angel. they are very sensitive to water changes. she seems to be doing a bit better though.. there are already less white spots. i will continue treatment even after they are gone though to kill all the baby ich too that may be in the tank.

I think you are referring to Kick Ich.

Rid Ich is a formalin based product and works quite well. DO NOT put this in your display tank, however, or you kill all your beneficial bacteria and poison any live rock you have in the tank. The OP should read up on ich treatment, set up a hospital tank, treat the fish there.

A coral beauty in a 13 gallon . . .

Thank you for posting that Abulgin--I felt the advice I gave --which is by far the general view on here==not soley mine-- was dismissed rather easily.
 
the stuff is called rid ich.... and yeah the 13 gallon is the hospital tank... already there are only about 2 white spots left on the coral beauty. the hospital tank has no live rock or sand in it so nothing will be killed. not the best conditions for the poor little guy but i have no other choice but to wait it out until he gets better.... which seems to be happening fairly quickly, but i will continue treatment for another week or so just to make sure =]
 
I am only repeating this out of concern for you having a reaccuring ich problem in your display tank, and not wanting to see you go through that heartbrake

Please consider some of the articles on this site on treating ich through hyposalination while you have the fish in quaratine.

Also please realize that many "treatments" will have the fish looking better in a matter of days, but this may be due to the natural life cycle of ich. The spots do disappear from the fish as the ich moves to the next stage of its life cycle, only to appear as a re-infestation later.
 
yeah ive been reading a lot about the different ways to treat it. thanks capn! none of the other fish have it so far.. just the angel... which is a good thing. and otrlynn i plan on using the medicine for like a week or 2 just to be sure no more ich can attack my fish. and i havent been dismissing anybodys advice.. any advice is always helpful! :D im sorry you felt that i was dismissing your advice. i just got excited that i found something that possibly could be a great way to treat ich and wanted to let you guys know =]. and this is the first time ive had ich in my display tank
 
Rid ich has been around for a long time and was a popular fresh water ich product .. not considered a consistent/effective cure for marine ich and something that I would never use in a reef tank.

If you have ich then you need to QT all of your fish and treat with either hypo or copper ... if you let your DT go without fish for about 5 weeks the ich within the DT will die off (ich need a fish to perpetuate the life cycle).
 
I agree if the angel has ich all the other fish have it also even if they don't show signs yet.

and again the only proven ways of ridding ich are:
hypo
copper
tank transfer

each have to be done in a seperate hospital tank.
