All the fish in my friends reef tank are covered in ick. The last fish added was 6 months ago and he quarantines all incoming fish and corals. The only new additions are a dozen astrea snails recently purchased from an LFS. The ick appeared within a few days of adding the snails ( no snial water was added) He noticed later the LFS did house the snails in fish tanks. Is it possible that the snails are a carrier of ick ? What other source could it be?

The tomont stage of ich can hitchhike on just about any surface including snails. As such some people will QT everything that goes into their tanks .. snails, corals, live rock etc.

If you can purchase snails, corals etc from vendors that don't keep fish in those tanks those inverts should be ich free.

Thank you for the reply.
In the future we will search out LFS with snails not mixed in with fish. Also everything goes in the QT tank first from now on.

q/t everything wet that goes in your tank. it is a pita but you can q/t snails in a rubbermade or bucket with a sponge filter.
