Ick Treatment

I have a 40gal QT w/ a hippo tang and yellow tang in it. I am treating the tangs w/ Cupramine b/c about 2days after i got them they started rubbing on the pvc pipe in the tank. I followed the directions on the back for the correct dossage, but when I use my copper test kit, it is not reading and copper in the water. Has anyone else used this product, and have you had the same problem, or could it jsut be that there isn't enough Cupramine in the water, or the copper test kit doesn't read the Cupramine in the water. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this case, so I won't cause any harm to my new additions.

Do you have the test recommended for the treatment? there are many types of copper used for different treatments. There is a chance they aren't compatible and it tests negative because there is none of that PARTICULAR copper in the treatment. Very tricky stuff, do not dose any more until you get a comparable testing kit. it should say on the package which testing kit is compatible.

Will a a fast return pump with a UV sterilizer kill the ich larvae during its free-swimming phase and keep it from spreading?

UV's only work if the flow rate is at the proper level for the specified kill rate. That said, UV's are not affective at treating ich or velvet in a single tank. Only good for keeping transmission of ich from one tank to another in a multiple system, like a wholesaler.

Seachem had problems with their test kits. I use the Red Sea copper test kit. It only goes up to 0.4 ppm, but that is still an affective level.
