I found this on a piece of LR just added to my tank. I think it looks like a coral, but I know nothing about coral. I'm setting this tank up for a FOWLR. Anyone know what it is for sure and what I should do with it, if anything? Any help would be great!

Thanks!:D

I assume you are talking about the picture titled coral in your gallery... It's hard to tell from the pic, could be a coral, could also be a sponge, it could also be a dead coral skeleton.

Oops! I guess the picture would help, huh?

Sorry:)

Kelley- It's in the center of the picture, in the little cave-like area.

If it's dead, should I do anything with it? And how do I tell if it is?

I had a piece of dead looking coral on some of my liverock. I think its of the encrusting SPS type. After observing it noticed that there was growth that I didn't see before. I used a blue L.E.D. light at night to look at it and if theres life you'll be able to see it. It will glow green. It has started to spread over the dead areas that used to on the liverock. Only have PC lighting so don't know how long it will survive.

But from your picture i have a skeleton on some of my liverock that looks similar to yours. And it hasn't shown any life signs.

If it is dead, I would leave it. As "drowningdreamer" said, there can be some life still in the skelletan that can regrow over time.

dwhit0102- no problem :)

drowningdreamer- I'll give it a shot.

It's completely shaded by the rock. Should I try to move it?

P.S. I don't know if it's hard or soft. I think it's hard from the looks of it. I have to wait for a water change before I can reach it, the tank's too deep and it's too cold around here to go swimming. :)
