small anemone about the size of a quarter. Looked pretty cool so I picked up at fish store today. Fed it a small piece of silverside and its real sticky like my carpet anemone. please help ID
Here is another pic. It is attached to the rock and has a wide base. I never seen a rock anemone that looked like this. It came in an assorted frag bag and LFS did not know what it was.
I think it might be a Cribinopsis albopunctata (a.k.a. Urticina lofotensis). If so a temperate species not really a reef anemone; I do not know if it can handle the high temperature in the long run.
Those anemones are a dime a dozen in the Gulf Coast, they're everywhere in jetties in Port Aransas. Not really a reef anemone. It was probably caught in the gulf and then traded to the pet store. I usually leave them alone when I catch things on the coast.
