The bristles are very large and far apart it swims like a leech and and it was crawling up the side of the tank when I caught it and it's about as long and as thick as your index finger do you think it's safe to keep

Probably a polychate worm. Has it caused any damage that you can see? If not, I think it's probably fine... Looks neat, yeah.

No not that I've noticed and I have a variety of soft,lps,sps plus a claim and shrimps that doesn't mean it won't do in the future just concerned about the size of it
 
Its just a big bristle worm. I usually dont like keeping the big ones around. but if your happy with it, it shouldnt hurt anything in the tank.
 
I'm no expert on telling the difference between the two.. but if it's a fire worm, a very similar appearence to a bristleworm, you may want rid of it.

He just looks way too red for an adverage bristleworm to me. He's also really fat.

Yeah you're probably right there I would just hate to get rid of it if it did no harm though
 
Do you have a filter compartment large enough for him, or a sump? You could put him in there, if you're worried. That way he can eat gunk without hurting anyone... I wouldn't kill the guy unless you're sure he's something bad.
I think he's just fat because you upset him and he scrunched himself up.
