ID Help Please

Can any one ID this anemone, i picked up some live sand and the person had it left in the tank and was going to just disguard it so I had to save the little guy

Really cool looking thats what it is. Can you get a picture of its foot? I would have saved it too, I really like the ring pattern on the tentacles. Feed it a piece of food to get it to show its foot.

heavily bleached to the point of looking near dead...but very cool markings as mentioned...

will it take food? small bits of mysis or bryne?

i have no idea on the id though...

It's a curleque anemone, Bartholomea annulata, from the Atlantic/Caribbean.

I thought it might be that but I've never seen one that small before so I wasn't sure. I don't like to jump the gun on IDs. Maybe its best to wait till it gets bigger before we make a positive ID on this one.

It's very characteristic of B. annulata, oral disc and rings on the tentacles. Some of the host anemones are definitely difficult to identify, but this species isn't, in my opinion.

Chicago, this anemone isn't a host species and can eat small fish. I had one many years ago, and they are very hardy. They do tend to move until they find a place they like. They will attach to the inside of an empty shell sometimes or plant their foot in a hole in the live rock. They are easy to feed and will accept small pieces of the usual foods. If I were you, I would feed mysis, very small pieces of silverside or squid once or twice per week.
