definitely looks like some sort of sea goblin or stonefish. you are aware that this fish is highly venomous, or that it at least appears to be?

the colors are wrong, but that is subjective as they can easily camouflage themselves. But this looks like your fish, at least the body structure is the same.

Awesome stonefish, but do not touch! They are very venomous!

And it would be best if next time, you researched the fish you want to purchase before you buy it...just my $0.02.

guys- this is some sort of "scorpionfish sp", scorpaenid is a family name.
These fish are very common in people tanks who keep fish eaters, they are carnivores and usually require live foods to start. If your lucky they will eat small ghost shrimp or guppies. Many of them will eventually wean over to dead mysis, and other meaty fare.
This is NOT a stone fish
Many of these fish remain small and can be kept w/ other fish equal or slightly larger in size.
Just remember that they eat other fish and any small moving invert like small crabs, and shrimp (usually hermits are safe)
If you want to ID this fish, you might have to get scott michael book reef fish vol I, he has a chapter on scorpions and has many photos. The key w/ your fish is the black white caudual peduncle.
As for the Jpg and the nightscorpion listed above they are also family members althou not the same fish, the link provided is to what is described as a Plumed scorpionfish, ands the image appears to be an ambon scorpionfish.
Lastly, read here, a whole issue of reefkeeping magazine on keeping scorpionfish.

Hi Frank! I just looked through all the scorpion fish in my S.Michael's Vol. 1 Not sure which one it is, but now I'm scared! Those fish look like something out of "Silent Hill" -- Is there a tank in that town?

That's one scary looking fish! Oops, I meant to say, What a cutie! Aren't you afraid when he grows up he'll come out of the tank & eat you?

Yours looks a little like the Sebastaphistes mauritia, FWIW. If that's what it is, they only get about 3 in. which would undoubtedly be good news for any other fish you might have. Since yours is a juvi maybe it'd be a good time to start looking for a mate ;)

I see you're in Miami, is this fish Carribean? That might help narrow it down quite a bit for those able to actually identify this little guy.
