I fought hair algae for years, won that battle a couple of years ago. I guess it is time for something new :(.

I can't figure out if it is Dino's or Cyno?

all those bubbles makes me think dinos, but i dont see any of those nasty brown snot strings that usually accompany dinos. is this is a low flow area? if so can you aim a powerhead at it for a few days and see what happens.

what do your parameters look like? phosphates? nitrates? silicates?

I’m ashamed to say I don’t have a nitrate or phosphate test kit, every time I have ever had my LFS test them they have been fine so I figured why bother. Anyway, I took some water in today and they didn’t tell me actual numbers but they said my Phosphates we almost undetectable, they used a Salifert test. They said the Nitrates were also really low. This stuff grows pretty fast and as it grow it gets thick and then flakes off of the rocks in big pieces. I’m not sure if this means anything or not????

I also agree on some strain on cyano, your rock looks very established so maybe came on a frag or something? I once put a frag that had cyano on it in a different spotless tank with zero nitrates and phosphates and it spread from the frag pretty fast.
