This thing is growing on the glass amongst some algae in my refugium.
It looks like a weird like hammer coral or something. I touched it with a piece of acrylic, and it's a bit solid feeling and didnt sustain any damage, yet flexible...
It appears to be a red macro and they're rarely invasive IME, with maybe red bubble algae being an exception. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Is the white area part of the alga internal or something growing on it? If internal it might be one of the species that incorporates calcium into it's structure although not a true coralline. These tend to grow in clumps rather than spread out. They do alternate sexual and asexual reproduction if I remember right so it could still spread. The only way to find out is to let it grow. If you have a separate fuge or sump you could transfer it and watch it to see whether it's a problem or not.
