Are you sure it was a starfish? Arrow crabs look a LOT like daddy longleg spiders...

it looked just like this...only the legs weren't jointed, they were like a brittle starfish would be

Some brittle/serpent stars have more than 5 legs. Also when they fill their bellies they are orb shaped.
