ID on starfish Please

stars have been washing onto the local beaches...some alive...some dead...this one was dead...reef safe?...cool looking anyhow...purple centers and orange/peach outside edges...click on image for larger pic....thanks for the help




 
idk where u live but i know they populate the gulf of mexico. not sure if any where else. they are a sand sifter. you can put in your tank they r reef safe. i would acclimate it for a long time tho. so if u have other sea stars it wont be compition for food cause its a sand sifter!

USUALLY, any star that doesn't have knobs or thorns on it's back are reef safe! Stars that are members of the Protreaster, Pentaceraster and Culcita aren't reef safe. Examples are Chocolate Chip, Horned Sea Star, Biscuit, Pin Cushion and Crown-of-Thorns. Stcik with Fromia, Linkia,and Ophiurids(Brittle and Serpent stars).
