CORAL2image1.jpg

This Coral I bought about 4 weeks ago fom my LFS. I beleive it to be a sub species of a flower pot corals. It has an encrusting mat with polyp that extend out mych like a lfower pot coral.

Heres another pic.

Sorry for the pic quality best i can do right now. This coral is in my 54 gal in my office so the pics were with a camera phone.

The issue is this. This coral has been doing fine, extending polyps etc. Today all of a sudden the polyp starting excreteing brown strings. It start with out 5 polyps and then the entire colony started doing the same thing.

Any idea what this coral is and what its doing?

and should i be concerned.

The water quality has been fine, with the exeption of a low ph that I have been gradually been raising over the last few days PH is currently 8.1 salt is fine, and my ALK is now slightly elevated, (from the PF buffer I assume)

any help would gretly be appreciated.

A apgoda,

brown strings=expelling zoaxanthellea. Could be a normal occuruunce, could be adapting to lighting conditions, or could be bleaching

The coral now seems to be doing fine. All the polyps have extended again and shortly after that it has excreted small clear bubbles, they almost look like microbubbles but they have a fine threadlike string attahced to them. The hermit crabs were all over it muching away. Still perplexed

I thought pagoda grw in thin sheets or does it encrust over rock surfaces?

Thanks for the Id guys, after looking at some pictures it does appear to be Turbinaria.

So the next questions is how do i keep it happy?

It has encrusted on all four sides of the rock its on.

Where should I place it in the tank up high or down in the bottom with some shade?

Again any info will be helpfull.
