So - this critter was "smoking" yesterday. Say him blowing several bursts of little clouds. It is probably .75" long.

There are several in the tank. I thought that they were stomatellas at first - but now I am not so sure. The shells are spiky - and seem to cover more of the animal than the stomatella (I have seen several other stomatellas in the tank that resemble the pics on melev's site).

Looking at melev's pics - maybie a cowrie or limpet?

A pic of similar animals in the tank. the lower one is the best pic I have of one moving. Lime the Stomatellas, the shell does not cover the entire body - but it does cover a lot more.

THANKS

Bad/good critter????

its a STOMATELLA snail. it is blowing sperm to reporduce, that stuff is great for your filter feeders, it IS reef safe and a good sign that they are there!

I just learned all this last week when i saw one climb a rock and do the same thing!

sweet -

just making sure - I have 3-4 different varieties - including an awesome black one that comes out at night. Just making sure it was not a nasty. In a reef - a nasty spawning usually means many more nasties.
