Hard to tell from the pics.. Looks like a peanut worm to me from what I see..

A eunicid will have a very distinct head. Without seeing more detailed pictures I would have to guess possibly a peanut worm.

Another pic, it's got a skinny shape throughout the length, with a pointy, skinny opposite end vs the rounded head in the other pictures. May be hard to tell in this picture.

Looks to be a large bristle worm from its shape & color to me. You can easily remove it with large tweezers if it keeps you up at night, im sure its not the only one in the tank, won't hurt anything.......................... just butt ugly CUC creature.

Oh butt ugly creatures helps to make me feel better about myself

I have no problem with harmless CUC, including ugly worms, just want to make sure it's not the evil kind.

So, I'm still leaning toward Eunice, but I don't think it's a Bobbit/aphroditois.

Coloration and body don't match well for sure...

However, the closest thing I've seen while perusing the net might be a leodice harrassi, but the "tail" on this thing is smooth and skinny.

Most of the pics I'm finding have these things with a rounded, thick "tail" end, often with a feeler or two.

If it didn't have what looked like "mandibles" in the 2nd pic above, I would assume it's just a detritus feeder.

Pretty sure that's a Eunice. You need to remove it.

I stand corrected, that last picture is definitive & the pointy end also. I was reading about it & if it spawns you may have a mess id rid my tank of it fast. Definitely a Eunice variety.

That's amazing. How fast do they grow? It's, probably 8" max right now.

I've ordered from reefcleaners, my lfs, and one cuc order from LA... And I'm betting it rode in on the last.

I ordered some ninja astreas, Mexican turbos, and trochus a few months ago from LA.

Would one this size be able to take down a small mandarin?


We'll I'll get to work on a pvc trap and see if that will do the trick.

I agree, but it's certainly a eunicid species of similar appetite with those jaws.

I'm hoping he's still arrogant enough to not be burrowing in a rock still.

Going to make a trap tonight and see if he's brash enough to hop right in.

I'm betting this thing is why my green mandarin disappeared. It was barely 1" and had been happy for over 3 months in my tank, so seems to be well within this evil things capacity to destroy.

Think it's okay to leave in tank overnight? Or should I pull after a couple of hours?

Just saw the evil worm again, but it wasn't headed for the trap yet.

I used fresh shrimp for the bait, as scallops were a bit pricey + frozen.
