The multiple small holes and fewer larger holes suggests its a sponge, and a beautiful one at that. I've never seen one like it.
 
I had some tunicates that looked kind of like that. They'll feel more like jelly if you touch them. A sponge feels like...well...a sponge. I wouldn't go poking at it to figure it out. Just enjoy it and don't worry when it dies off. Things like that tend to come and go in our reefs.
 
Yep they are a Colonial Tunicate.
Most tunicates are very very hard to keep and require feedings..

They usually eventually starve to death..
 
My sump was full of those when I was running my tank in Alaska. They lasted for 2 years or so. I've rarely seen tunicates last more than a month or less. Enjoy them!
