I have this algae growing in my main tank under egg crate on a flat rock. Don't know where and how it gets there. I assume it has been there for awhile. Can anybody tell what time of an algae is this and iis it good or bad. John

I've had something like that in my tanks before, don't know the name of it but from my experience it didn't over grow the tank and was easy to trim if needed. I would say it's beneficial, similar growth style to the blue hypnea macro algae

Looks like codium to me? If it is, it's a macroalgae. I don't know much about it but it didn't grow too quickly in my tank.

do you have any tangs? If so, try feeding some to them and see if they like it. It's always nice be able to grow your own food :)

Looks like he already got an ID, but I'm not an algae expert, or a reefing expert hahaha looks awesome though. Throw it in the fuge.

Thank guys for the clarification. That is funny. When I see that macro algae in my tank, it reminds me of BeanMachine. :)

if its not growing too quickly/invasive then it is not a pest to you, but know that different algaes cosume different elements in their growing process.
