top pic: not sure - looks like a mushroom
middle pic: is a gorgonian.
bottom pic: I'm afraid that in my experience that's what's happening. the white area will spread. it's possible you can cut the branch below the white area. the usual culprit is exposure to air

thanks, sad to hear about the sponge btu i guess it happens, but im kinda happy, he is rather large for my tank and i feel unsightly.

and mushroom as in coral? or is that the type of nem? and i dont think its coral, because ti moves, has a foot and moves around when it wants to?

yes, as in coral. mushrooms do move about a bit [they are animals] until they find a suitable spot - then settle in and multiply like weeds. pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "nem"?

anemone, sorry might just be my personal short hand... probably should be a little more clear. but this "thing" is about 4 inches across that seems large for a mushroom. and has rooted himself on teh glass for about 5 months and has yet to multiply

OK. I'm looking more closely at the picture - could you post a larger, clearer one, perhaps? It may not be a mushroom, but doesn't really resemble any anemones with which I'm familiar - not that that is saying a lot. the tentacles appear to surround a mouth from what I can make out, but lots of corals are structured that way. sorry I can't be more help if it's that large and not multiplying that would argue for an anemone. you could always google anemone images and see what you come up with

you probably already know this but...
Air can become trapped in the matrix channels, which line the inside of the sponge body blocking food from reaching its cells. This will result in the death of the sponge

So it might help to cut off the dead part at this point.

sorry i cant get a better picture at the moment. as for a better description. the tentacles are only on the outter edge of main disc. there are some smaller "bumps" coming off the main disc leading to the mouth. these smaller tentacles/bumps seem to be in about 8 or so lines from the mouth out to the main tentacles. where there is one thicker but not longer tentacle (the white spots on the picture) the underside is a fleshy white with red spots all over it

just use a knife to cut off the dead sponge? any other ways/precautions i should know?

dont underestimate...mushrooms get huge...

cut the stalk of the sponge a little below white area with a razor blade or exacto knife

top pic is a rock anemone - the sponge is probably a goner
