WOW you struck it rich! Looks like a large colony of PPE's. Purple People Eaters! They go for at least $100 for 2 polyps on ebay.

How much did you get them for?

I was thinking more RPE's, but the green skirt might develop (I do see a tinge of green in the skirts:)). Definitely Protopalythoa. Nice score, esp. for free.

But i'm not sure about PPE, caus' my LFS is not a great retailer of saltwater stuff, and of cours they didn't spent so much money (i guess) on corals...

Nice to hear that the green on the skirts will develop, caus the coloration now isn't soooo cool.. Brown.

But the lighting in the LFS tank was sooo bad... It might just did better in mine! (400W MH 20K)

people eater is a name given to palythoas by blane perun at thesea.org

there are different colors of them. is this one purple?

very nice score of protopalys!! theres no telling if they are PPE's or not. i've noticed that some protopalys change color from brown to other colors in a dramatic fashion. who knows what they will end up as. could just be brown with a green skirt. i do notice some interesting green spots though. very interesting!

your LFS sounds like mine. they arent a specialty store by any means. and all of their zoas are the same price, the way they get it from the wholesaler. no hype on certain colors/names.

Does the protopalythoa are aproximatelay the sames needs like the zoanthids? What is the physically differcente between protopalys and zooanthids?

Basically the palys grow to be bigger and most will respond to feeding. They are very similar in care to the zoanthid. I care for them the same, except offer food to them every once and a while. My palys like a little less flow and light as well.

How do you feed them? With a seringue full of micro food, or with phyto plancton liquids in all the tank?

I've tried the seringue, and it makes 'em retract...
