I bought a rock with a mushroom on it. I'm wondering if the "seaweed?" Attached is good or bad for the tank....or if it's seaweed.

Not sure of the type but it appears to be a nice macro algae. I'd keep it and let it grow to see what it turns into. Just be watchful in case it starts to spread too badly.

It looks like Dicytota. If you can keep it contained to that one rock and prune it every now & then it might be ok. GL.

Nutrient export, but I don't allow macro algae in my display tank.... slippery slope

Yes it does consume nitrates and phosphates from your system, the same as any other plant like Chaeto. Some do a better job than others but also aren't as attractive to keep in the DT. The actual export of those nutrients comes when you prune it and remove from the system. Some fish and CUC will eat them as well. I've been thinking of adding a red macro algae to my tank, just to add some more color to it. I think the one you have is quite attractive and if I had it, I'd keep it in my DT. But if you don't like it, just remove it.

How big is your DT? If it's relatively large then I wouldn't put to much faith in that algae when comes down to nutrient uptake/removal. It's more for looks than anything else. Like mentioned above though your kind of playing with fire by letting this take hold in your tank. GL.

Oh, that's not very big. Even still though that algae needs to grow rather large to be really effective. It's your call. Play it safe and remove it or roll the dice. GL.
