This are from the north coast of PR; and yes i now the regulations of collecting live stocks without permision but that day my friend was in front of my door with this two specimens and i cant say put it where you get it. So they are on my reff.

i have seen this coral in the Caribbean, i dont thinks its palmata but, who knows anyway.

Don't forget, A recent study discovered that the species once known as Acropora prolifera is actually an F1 hybrid of palmata and cervicornis exhibiting strong tendencies to grow like one or both parents. In some colonies, it grows like palmata on one side and cervicornis on the other. Either way, if it is caribbean, it can only be one of two species, be grateful you have it and take good care of it.

Hmm.. Difficult to say. I think you ought to send me a live frag for further study ;)

This coral use to grow like a fan or an Elkhorn. If anyone now how can i post pics in this forum again let me now. The first days i use to post pics, the maximum size to post pics are 76000 kb and now is reduced to 51200. I used a Cool Pix Nikon model 775, 2.1 Mpixel and the smaller size is about 74.0 kb. Bye and thank's to all the replys.

Jake,
I was just about to say the same thing. A. prolifera was my first thought when I saw the pic.

uh oh....
i had a large stag with growth matching exactly like the left branch in ralphyhp first pic.
i got rid of most of it b/c it was taking up too much room, (and it may have been the source of a large sps crash, after introduction to my tank) but i do have a fair sized frag of it still.

it is a thick branch stag. tan in color. large corallites, large polyps. the ends of some branches were white and the polyps there would be a light violet color.

i will try to get a pic of it soon.

WOWWIEEE!

WOWWIEEE!

YESS! That is VERY nice Ralph! I would definately say its either palmatta or prolifera....cerviconis does not have tabling (elkhorn) patterns. You might want to PM Eric Borneman I think he is trying to do some studies on these species and if I remember right there is a thread where he was asking of reefers who can sustain these species. Awesome JOB! Put me on the waiting list for a frag plez :D

Hi guys:

First, A. prolifera is a hybrid of A, palmata and A. cervicornis.

Second, the top is A. palmata and the other sure looks like cervicornis. Now, if I might....ralphy and jabrams, can you guys email me directly at EricHugo@aol.com. We need to talk. seriously.

Id this Acro.

Id this Acro.

This coral was collected 1 mile away from the shore at the north coast of Puerto Rico at a place called Isla de Cabras (Goat Island) at Palo Seco, Puerto Rico, the coral was found at a flat reef with a depth of three foot so thats a really shallow water coral. I place it on the hightest part of my tank under 440w of VHO's lights 2 daylights and 2 actinics URI lights. The water currents on that tank was medium. The original size of this animal when it was collected was about 2" 1/2 at the base, 1" at the middle and at the top have a cup shape like a moose horn 2"1/2 at that time. The growth rate for this kind of coral was slow on the VHO's lights but the coral always look very healthy. Believe it or not, i have it on that lights set up for two years and a half and it looks always pretty so i have a positive testimonie of the VHO's lights. On that set up the color was a light brown with a pretty dark green on it. The coral never attach to the L/R by itself with the VHO's setup but when i up grade to 125g with M/H, VHO's and PCs lights, very strong water currents, it immediately attach to the L/R by itself and the growth rate increse very much. I have this coral on 2 HQI 250w 10000k D/E Ushios on the corners with a Dual HQI 250w ballast and two 250w 10000k mogul base 10000k Ushios at the center of the tank, Two 110W VHO's URI actinics and two 65w PC's actinics. I place it under one of the mini- HQI pendants with the D/E 10000k Ushios light and the growth rate increase a lot, 5"1/2 at the base 2"1/2 at the center and 7"1/2 overall and i upgrade to 125g 4 month ago so i can see a nice growth on this set up. The water currents i used is a Iwaki 40 RXLT on a 1"Sea Swirl and a 9.5 magdrive working as a wavemaker. I just add Kalkwasser and C-Balance to my reef.:mixed:
