Red bubble algae, possibly a species of Botryocladia. It can spread and become a nuisance. Not a whole lot of people in need of controls for this one that I've seen. So not too sure what to suggest. I have it or something very similar growing in my tank. So far its been a slow grower and even though its spred a bit isnt causing problems.
Thanks The Zoo rock is easy to remove so I will take it our and try to remove it in my bucket with the water I remove during my next change. The other rock will be more interesting. Can it spread if I miss it during the siphon?
It's better to just suck it off the rock. If you plan to scrub the rock, it will spread. Don't do it that way. The holdfast of the algae is extremely hard to remove, and once the bubble breaks open you'll have a slippery mess on your hands. But if you dig the siphon tube up under it, it will break loose and come off in one piece usually. And if it breaks open, the tube will remove the insides.
It is better and easier to just suck the bubbles off the rock whole.
